Here is a step-by-step guide to help you achieve pizza perfection.

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil.

Using a wooden spoon, mix the ingredients until a dough begins to form.

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

  3. Make the Tomato Sauce:
  4. In a small saucepan, combine the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Simmer the sauce over low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened.

Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool before using it on the pizza.

  5. Assemble the Pizza:
  6. Preheat your oven to the highest temperature (usually around 500°F or higher) and place a pizza stone or upside-down baking sheet inside to heat up.

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a thin circle to form the pizza crust.

Place the pizza crusts on parchment paper to assemble the toppings.

Spread a generous amount of tomato sauce on each pizza crust, leaving a border around the edges for the crust.

Arrange the sliced fresh mozzarella on top of the sauce.

Drizzle a little olive oil over the pizza and season with salt and pepper.

Transfer the pizza on the parchment paper to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet in the oven.

  7. Bake the Pizza:
  8. Bake the pizzas in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

Remove the pizzas from the oven and let them cool slightly before topping with fresh basil leaves.

Slice the pizzas, serve hot, and enjoy the authentic flavors of Italy in the comfort of your own home!
